You may be getting a little older, but you still want to feel like that youthful and attractive guy you were in your twenties and thirties, right? Well I'm here to tell you that it's possible to restore sex drive to it's former glory. The truth is, as men age they have a harder time maintaining a healthy sex drive, often feel less energetic, and start to notice their bodies aren’t as lean and muscular as they used to be. Experiencing these symptoms, many men think something is seriously wrong. Even worse, many of these same men turn to their doctors who tell them "hey-it's just a normal part of aging-get used to it". I'm here to tell you, it doesn't have to be this way.
Why Testosterone Deficiency Happens
While TD occurs in most men over 65, until previous medical advancements it was considered a natural biological process that could not be treated. Now, other factors beyond age, including lifestyle choices and environmental estrogens have increased the phenomenon exponentially, both in older and younger men. Interest from the pharmaceutical industry as well as those in hormone therapy research realized the potential for testosterone treatment in older men. Extensive research led to a new type of treatment, Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT).
Even though there are multiple studies that show men over 65 have a significant drop in their testosterone levels, very recently, researchers have increased funding to find the causes behind this 'testosterone deficiency'. More importantly, the medical industry is looking for more and better treatment methods. Thankfully, as the medical field continues to advance due recent studies proving the success of hormone therapy in men, more and more progressive physicians and pharmaceutical companies are offering testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) to their patients.
What the Studies Say
Baylor College of Medicine in Houston just published a revealing research report on TRT .
The study, led by Dr. Glenn Cunningham found:
“older men treated with testosterone gel experienced a moderate but significant improvement in their sex drive, sexual activity and erectile function compared to men given a placebo gel.” He also reported that "men treated with testosterone reported an increase in orgasm of about one every week versus one every 10 days."
This major medical breakthrough took over a year to validate. The U.S. National Institutes of Health funded the “Testosterone Trials” project, to “assess the effectiveness of hormone therapy in men 65 or older with symptoms related to low testosterone levels.” Dr. Cunningham’s trial was one of seven campaigns, but proved to be the most thorough and most conclusive on the effects of TRT for older men. His data was published in U.S. News & World Report on June 29, 2016.
Previous studies report similar findings. The National Center for Biotechnology Information released this in 2007:
“Three studies have reported substantial strength gains following testosterone treatment and all have employed doses of testosterone that are somewhat higher than replacement doses. Ferrando et al (2002) treated older hypogonadal and eugonadal men for 6 months with a biweekly injection of testosterone… and resulted in an approximate doubling of circulating testosterone.”
As an astute reader of TRTRevolution.com, you already know TRT is still an extremely hot topic in the medical field. Many physicians still doubt the effectiveness, and the ethical use for men with “mild” symptoms. Some believe that short of severe erectile dysfunction or infertility, TRT is not justified. Even more medical researchers question the right dosage, for little consistency is found in the recommended dosages for men who do not suffer from severe testosterone deficiency.
The NCBI states in their report:
“Testosterone replacement in older men has produced benefits, but not consistently so. The inconsistency may arise from differences in the dose and duration of testosterone treatment, as well as selection of the target population. Generally, studies reporting anabolic responses to testosterone have employed higher doses of testosterone for longer treatment periods and have targeted older men whose baseline circulating bioavailable testosterone levels were low.”1
Should I Try TRT?
